The South East Asia Research Collaboration with Hawaii (SEARCH) is a research unit of the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre. SEARCH is a collaboration between the TRC-ARC, the University of Hawaii and the US Military HIV research program (USMHRP) to conduct studies on acute HIV infection/HIV cure, neuro AIDS HIV pathogenesis, and HIV vaccines. It currently employs 26 staff members.

Our Staff

Jintanat Ananworanich, MD., Ph.D.

Heads operations at SEARCH and also holds the position of Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii and Deputy Director of Scientific Affairs at HIV-NAT, Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre. Dr. Jintanat has expertise in developing protocols and managing adult and pediatric HIV clinical trials involving international and national sites. She has been a trainer on HIV/AIDS issues particularly antiretroviral therapy and the treatment of children with HIV.


Nittaya Phanuphak, MD.

is the deputy chief of SEARCH who joined us in May 2008. She is an HIV dermatologist, specializing in the prevention of mother to child transmission and in sexual health. At SEARCH, she is responsible for the implementation of research protocols. She is also a part time physician at the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre.

Eugene Kroon, MD.

is a widely-published clinical studies physician with almost two decades of clinical and research experience relating to HIV. Prior to joining SEARCH, he was the Chief Executive Officer for Thailand of a global-active clinical research organization.

Thep Chalermchai, MD.

is a clinical trials physician at SEARCH. He is HIV specialist and medical oncologist. He also has an interest in HIV-related malignancy and cancer pathogenesis in HIV patients.

James Fletcher, BM, BCH

is a research physician at SEARCH. He is a medical graduate of the University of Oxford medical school. He has experience in both on laboratory and clinical research as well as patient care and treatment. He joined SEARCH in 2010.

Nitiya Chomchey, M.Sc.

is a clinical trials manager and training coordinator. She is an experienced research nurse who is responsible for clinical trial studies monitoring. In addition, she will work closely with the chief and deputy chief of SEARCH on conducting HIV/AIDS training with physicians, nurses, laboratory technicians and peer educators.


Siriporn Nonenoy, M.P.H.

is the manager for MSM (Men who have sex with Men) research programs at SEARCH, the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre and HIVNAT. She has previously worked as a study monitor at HIVNAT and as a head clinical research associate in the pharmaceutical industry.


Patcharawee Rungrojrat, B.N.S.

is a study monitor. She has many years of experience as research nurse and study monitoring with clinical research organizations before joining SEARCH in 2010. She is responsible for a study, related to National Institute of Health (NIH).

Duanghathai Suttichom, M.N.S.

is a study monitor who has several years of experience in HIV clinical trials. She is involved primarily HIV vaccine cohort and acute HIV infection studies.

Somprartthana Rattanamanee, M.Sc.

is a clinical trials nurse with many years of experience in the emergency and trauma units of a university hospital. She is now involved in several SEARCH HIV/AIDS clinical studies especially those relating to acute HIV infection.

Somporn Tipsuk, RN

is a research nurse. She has experience in patient care and treatment in a leading private hospital. She is now responsible for neuroAIDS and HIV vaccine study.

Peeriya Mungyu, RN

is a research nurse with many years of experience both in patient care and clinical research. She has worked in one of the best university hospital before joining SEARCH in 2011. She is now responsible for acute HIV study.

Putthachard Sangtawan, B.N.S.

is a study nurse; she has over 10 years experience of clinical nursing in both anesthetic and intensive care environments. Her research interests are currently focused on neurological studies and the pathology of HIV in the gut.

Michittra Boonchan, B.Sc.

is a laboratory coordinator. Before joining SEARCH, she worked many years in HIV and opportunistic infection laboratory of university hospital. She coordinates all laboratory aspects for SEARCH studies.

Ratchapong Kanaprach, M.Bc

is the IT/Database Manager. He has many years of experience in computer business, and has previously handled information technology projects in large corporations. He provides the expertise in setting up system and database clinical trial data.


Routhairat Suttichom, M.A.

is in charge of data entry and has had many years of experience in research data entry at the National Children Hospital.



Varaporn Pothipala, M.Sc.

is the financial and office manager. She is an experienced accountant and managed large projects at international organizations prior to joining SEARCH.

Siriporn Sangthong, VET

is the general assistant at SEARRCH. Her work includes administrative affairs liaison with associate departments.



Sudrak Lukhonphon, B.N.S.

is psychosocial program coordinator. She has over ten years of experience working with non-governmental organizations in helping children with HIV infection. She coordinates three charity programs that provide support for medical and psychosocial care for children with HIV and their families.


Chutima Ketbamrung, M.A.

is psychosocial program assistant. She works closely with the program coordinator in arranging all children activities. She generously volunteered in the children programs for many years before joining us as a permanent member of staff at SEARCH.


Sangla Najai, VET

is the psychosocial program administrator. She is in charge of administration matter and work closely with the psychosocial program coordinator.
