Charity under Royal Patronage

Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali has made various contributions in the public health area especially HIV/AIDS over the last decades. The following Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre programs are under the HRH’s royal patronage.

  • The Program for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT)

This program has provided antiretroviral treatment to more than 7,000 women.  It was the first program to provide antiretrovirals to pregnant women in 1995, and in 2004 it pioneered the use of highly active ART (HAART) in pregnant women with the continuation of life-long HAART in women fulfilling ART initiation criteria.

Thanks to HRH Princess Soamsawali’s dedication to this program, up to 7,700 babies (with HIV-infected mothers) were born healthy and HIV free.

  • The Program of Life Giving to the Parents of HIV-free Babies

The program of Life Giving to the Parents of HIV-free Babies was established with the endorsement of HRH Princess Soamsawali. The program provides comprehensive care including health check-ups, treatment, education, nutrition advice and psychosocial support to people living with HIV, most of whom are people who benefitted from the Program for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission and thus have HIV-negative children.
Up to November 2012, more than 900 individuals have benefitted from this program. As Thai citizens have access to antiretroviral treatment through the national health scheme, most patients continue to receive their medications at hospitals where they are registered, but they also come to the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre’s Anonymous Clinic for follow-up care.

  • Formula Feeding Fund for Newborns

The Formula Feeding Fund was established to help provide powdered milk to the new born in families affected by HIV. Apart from personally financially donated to the fund, HRH Princess Soamsawali has stirred up interest in nutrition for HIV-affected children. As a result, many milk manufacturers and generous individuals have contributed to the Milk Fund, and powdered milk has been distributed to hospitals nationwide, ensuring proper nutrition for babies.

  • Princess Soamsawali AIDS Medication Fund of the Thai Red Cross Society

The Princess Soamsawali AIDS Medication Fund of the Thai Red Cross Society provides medications to people living with HIV whose ART regimes cannot be sponsored through the national health scheme and who cannot afford medications.
Currently, up to 80 HIV-positive people can live a healthy, AIDS-free life thanks to this program.

Your contributions to programs under royal patronage of HRH Princess Soamsawali are welcomed.  Donations to the Thai Red Cross Society are tax-deductible.
